Time to Update Your Samsung Cash Register

Upgrade the aging Samsung ER-4900, ER-4915, and ER-4940

The ER-4900 series cash registers from Samsung has been in operation for over 15 years.  While many machines are still pounding through transactions, others are starting to show their age.  Most often, the Samsung ERP-400 printer used in the machines breaks down – either the print head has broken pins, the journal belt breaks, or the tray that the ERC-18 ribbon sits on will break, causing the ribbon to stop feeding.

Many replacement parts for the ERP-400 printer are available, however the tray that the ribbon sits on is no longer available.  What should you do if your printer breaks down?   ERP-400 printers are no longer manufactured, and you may find some refurbished models on the internet going for as much as $350.   Sam4s (formerly Samsung) has a line of cash registers that is a direct replacement for the ER-4900 series, called the ER-5200 series.  There are three models – the ER-5200M, ER-5215M, and ER-5240M.  All of these machines use upgraded parts – utilizing two of the acclaimed STM-210 printers from Sam4s (one receipt, one journal), a 2-line LCD operator display, 2 serial RS-232 ports (for peripherals, such as barcode scanners), and memory upgrade capabilities.

The Sam4s ER-5200M is in stock, ready to ship for our low price (call for current pricing).  This machine boasts 117 PLU (item) buttons directly on the keyboard and is extremely popular for restaurants with its ability to send orders to a kitchen printer.  The machine is capable of storing more than 12,000 items with memory upgrades.

The Sam4s ER-5215M is also in stock, with a price of $419.99.  The ER-5215M comes with 5 1×2 PLU buttons on the keyboard by default, but is upgradeable to 15 1×1 PLU buttons.  The ER-5215M is popular for convenience stores that focus more on departments and barcode scanning rather than having dozens of items on the keyboard.  With memory upgrades, the machine is capable of storing more than 12,000 items.

The Sam4s ER-5240M is in stock, ready to ship for our low price (call for current pricing).  This ER-5240 comes with 15 1×2 PLU buttons on the keyboard by default, which is upgradeable to 40 1×1 PLU buttons.  This machine is ideal for those who would still like to have a large number of items on the keyboard and would prefer a raised keyboard rather than a flat keyboard (like the ER-5200M).  This is another popular machine for convenience stores who use departments and barcode scanners.  The ER-5240M can also hold more than 12,000 items with memory upgrades.

When you factor in the cost of purchasing a new ERP-400 printer, journal belts, ribbons, and the age of the ER-4900 machines, it is difficult to justify upkeep of the old machine versus purchasing a Sam4s ER-5200 series machine with a six-month warranty.
